The number one spam candidate entry point for most recruiters will be through contact forms or job application forms. Spam bots submit your application form, a fake candidate is added to your CRM and a fake job application is assigned.
We’ve all seen methods website owners take to try to prevent this, from the ‘tick all boxes with a sidewalk’ to ‘what letters are displayed in the box above’ type systems. The problem is, spam bots are wise to these and many bypass them with ease.
The remedy: Email Verification
It’s simple but effective. Users enter their email and request a verification code. The code is instantly sent to their email, where they copy and paste the code back to the form.
That’s it, no more spam emails, no more spam candidates, no more spam job applications. Just legit contacts, candidates and applications.
We added email verification to our own websites and tracked the data for a few months. Here’s what we found;
Number of bots starting the form: 793
Number of bots submitted the form successfully: 0
Number of humans starting the form: 208
Number of humans submitting the form: 204
We lost 4 contacts during those months we were monitoring. However, all four entered false details, meaning effectively they were also spam. Humans can spam too unfortunately, but this system flushed those out also.
